as ten-year-old Mimi. The plot
is based on her own childhood memories of New Ulm and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Flavia wrote about her fatherless family of seven with gentle
humor and a lighthearted spirit in her book for young people. It is filled
with fun winter activities for a family (with all the names changed) in a
small town, then some of them camping in a tent for the summer before,
finally, moving to the big city,
One of the charming aspects in A Wish for Mimi are
FlaviaÕs illustrations, many of which depict details for real family members,
neighbors, interior of the G‡g house in New Ulm, and exterior of the
apartment house where the G‡gs first lived in Minneapolis. These
